História e Monumentos
As primeiras referências documentais a São Brás datam de 1517, altura em que surgiu um documento de cariz religioso com o objetivo de inventariar o património religioso.
No entanto, as origens do concelho remontam a tempos anteriores, nomeadamente aos períodos Paleolítico e Neolítico, de que foram encontrados vestígios.
Os romanos marcaram também presença no concelho, como comprova uma calçada romana - que ligava São Brás a Ossonoba (Estói) e a Pax Júlia (Beja) - e uma inscrição funerária do século II d. C. - descoberta no pedestal do púlpito de uma antiga ermida, que deu lugar à Igreja de S. Romão.
A descoberta de duas sepulturas antigas, onde foram encontradas algumas ossadas e uma bilha, comprova a presença dos Visigodos durante o século V d. C.
Os nomes de localidades como Almargens, Alcaria, Alportel e Mesquita, assim como algumas moedas, assinalam a passagem dos Árabes pelo concelho.
